Tom Finney
Sir Tom Finney is considered one of the greatest players in the history of English football and one of the best athletes Preston North End has ever produced. Versatile like few of his era, he played with mastery on both flanks and also as a center forward, being compared to the legendary Stanley Matthews as the greatest English attacker of his generation. His entire professional career was dedicated to Preston North End, the club of his hometown, where he played from 1946 to 1960. He refused lucrative offers from Italian clubs and other European powers to remain faithful to the club that revealed him, becoming a symbol of loyalty and professionalism in world football. In the English national team, he accumulated 76 matches and 30 goals, participating in three World Cups (1950, 1954, and 1958). Elected twice as England's Best Player by the Football Writers' Association (FWA), in 1954 and 1957, Finney was recognized with the title of Knight of the British Empire (CBE) and later with the honor of Sir. He passed away on February 14, 2014, at the age of 91, as one of the greatest legends of British football.
