Włodzimierz Lubański
Włodzimierz Lubański was born in Gliwice, in Poland, on February 28, 1947, and is one of the greatest strikers in the country's history. He made his debut very young for Górnik Zabrze and became the main figure of Poland's most successful club in the 1960s and 1970s. For Górnik, he was Polish champion in 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1971 and 1972 and reached the final of the 1970 European Cup Winners' Cup, which was lost to Manchester City. In 1975, he moved to Lokeren in Belgium, and later played in France before ending his career. For the Polish national team, he scored 48 goals in 75 matches and was Poland's all-time leading scorer for decades. He won the gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games, but a serious injury suffered in the 1973 World Cup Qualifiers against England kept him out of the 1974 World Cup. He returned in time to play in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina.
