Aberdeen FC

Aberdeen FC

Aberdeen is the biggest club in the north of Scotland and one of the few clubs to have broken the hegemony of the two Glasgow giants in Scottish football. Founded in 1903, the club experienced its golden era in the 1980s under Sir Alex Ferguson's leadership. It is the only Scottish club outside Glasgow to have won a European title in the twentieth century.

History

Under Alex Ferguson's leadership, Aberdeen won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1983 by defeating Real Madrid with Juanito and Stielike, in one of the greatest achievements in Scottish football. The club also won the European Super Cup that same year. Domestically, Aberdeen was twice Scottish champion in 1984 and 1985, challenging the hegemony of Celtic and Rangers. Gordon Strachan and Willie Miller were pillars of that historic team.
