AC Milan 2003
The 2003 Milan team, managed by Carlo Ancelotti, won the 2002/03 Champions League by defeating Juventus on penalties at Old Trafford, and also won the Coppa Italia.
History
The 2002/03 squad brought together a heavyweight generation: Dida in goal, a defense featuring Maldini, Nesta and Costacurta, a midfield with Pirlo, Gattuso, Seedorf and Rui Costa, and an attacking line with Shevchenko and Inzaghi. Under Carlo Ancelotti, Milan combined defensive solidity with midfield creativity. In the Champions League, they eliminated Inter Milan in the semifinal on the away goals rule. The final, played on May 28, 2003 at Old Trafford, ended 0-0 against Juventus, and Milan won 3-2 on penalties, with three saves by Dida and Shevchenko scoring the decisive penalty. In the same season, the club won the Coppa Italia, defeating Roma in the final, and in August 2003 also claimed the UEFA Super Cup, beating Porto.
