AEK Athens FC

AEK Athens is one of the three major clubs in Greek football and the club with the greatest representation of Greek refugees from Constantinople. Founded in 1924 by Greeks expelled from Turkey after the Greco-Turkish War, the club has a history marked by resilience and cultural identity. AEK is the third-largest winner of the Greek championship.

History

AEK Athens won 13 Super League Greece titles and 15 Greek Cups throughout its history. The club was a powerhouse in the 1990s and early 2000s, reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. Legends such as Mimis Papaioannou, Demis Nikolaidis and Nikos Liberopoulos marked generations of supporters. In 2023, AEK won the Greek title after years of financial instability.
