Ajax 1995
The 1995 Ajax team won the UEFA Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup under the command of Louis van Gaal. The team, formed largely by young players from the academy, is considered one of the best in the club's history.
History
The 1994–95 Ajax combined experienced players, such as Danny Blind, Frank Rijkaard and Edwin van der Sar, with a generation formed in the club's academy, which included Clarence Seedorf, Edgar Davids and Patrick Kluivert. The manager was Louis van Gaal. In the 1994–95 Champions League, Ajax reached the final in Vienna and defeated Milan 1-0, with a goal by Patrick Kluivert in the 85th minute, at the Ernst Happel Stadium. The team had an undefeated campaign in the competition. In the Dutch championship of 1994–95, Ajax was also champion without losing. The season also included the conquest of the UEFA Super Cup, against Zaragoza, and the 1995 Intercontinental Cup, in which the club defeated Grêmio on penalties in Tokyo, after a goalless draw. The 1995 team is a reference for its offensive style, ball circulation and appreciation for player development, characteristics that marked the club's school.
