Al Ain FC

Al Ain Football Club is one of the most traditional and successful clubs in the United Arab Emirates, based in the oasis city of Al Ain. It is the Emirati team with the most national titles and the first in the country to win the AFC Champions League.

History

Founded in 1968, Al Ain FC was born in the city of the same name, a historic oasis near the border with Oman, and quickly became a dominant force in Emirati football after the unification of the United Arab Emirates in 1971. The club built its identity around rivalry with teams such as Al Wahda and Al Wasl, competing for the main domestic titles over decades. The major international milestone in the club's history came in 2003, when Al Ain won the AFC Champions League, becoming the first Emirati team to win the continent's main club competition in Asia. The feat repeated in 2024, when the team lifted the continental trophy again, defeating Yokohama F. Marinos in the final, which secured a new spot in the FIFA Club World Cup. Throughout its trajectory, the club revealed important figures in Emirati football, such as midfielder-forward Omar Abdulrahman, one of the greatest players in the country's history, and received heavyweight names such as Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan, the team's historical top scorer in the 2010s. Al Ain is recognized as the biggest champion of the United Arab Emirates' national league.
