América de Cali is one of the most traditional and popular clubs in Colombia, being the main representative of football from the city of Cali. The club is famous for its extensive rivalry with Deportivo Cali and for having played in three consecutive Copa Libertadores finals in the 1980s.
History
América de Cali lived its golden era in the 1980s, when it became the most dominant club in Colombian football and reached three consecutive Copa Libertadores finals (1985, 1986 and 1987), without winning the title. With multiple national championships, the club is one of the most successful in Colombia. Despite a difficult period that included relegations and administrative problems, América de Cali returned to the elite of Colombian football while maintaining its tradition.
