History
América Futebol Clube was founded on July 14, 1914, in Joinville, in northern Santa Catarina. Wearing red and white, the club became known as Rubro and also as Galo da Zona Norte, with the rooster as its mascot. The most victorious period came between the late 1940s and early 1950s, with the Catarinense titles of 1947, 1948, 1951, and 1952. The fifth state championship came in 1971. The club's biggest rival in the city was Caxias, with whom América shared the attention of Joinville football for decades. On January 29, 1976, the professional football departments of América and Caxias united and formed Joinville Esporte Clube, which won the Catarinense Championship in its first year of existence. After the merger, América continued with its own activities. The club has titles in the Catarinense Amateur Championship in 1995 and 1996, in addition to 15 conquests of the Joinville Football League, the most recent in 2014.
