History

Anorthosis Famagusta was founded in 1911 in the city of Famagusta (Ammochostos) and is one of the biggest clubs in Cypriot football. It has 13 titles of the national first division, 10 Cyprus Cups and 7 Super Cups. After the Turkish invasion of 1974, the club lost access to its stadium in Famagusta, the GSE, and began playing its home games at Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium, in Larnaca. In 2008, after winning the 2007-08 national championship, Anorthosis became the first Cypriot club to reach the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, in the 2008-09 edition.
