History

Founded in 1926 in Nicosia, APOEL FC (Athlitikos Podosferikos Omilos Ellinon Lefkosias) quickly became one of the dominant forces in Cypriot football. The club accumulated dozens of national titles and stood out internationally by qualifying for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League in the 2011-12 season, reaching the quarter-finals of the competition, an unprecedented feat for a club from Cyprus. With a passionate fan base and historic rivalry with Omonia, APOEL remains a reference for Cypriot football in European competitions.
