Association Sportive de Saint-Étienne

AS Saint-Étienne is the club with the most titles in French football history, having won ten national championships. Nicknamed 'Les Verts', the Greens were the dominant force of French football in the 1960s and 1970s. The Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, known as 'Le Chaudron' (The Cauldron), is one of the most intimidating environments in European football.

History

Founded in 1919 as the sports section of a mining company, Saint-Étienne became the most successful club in Ligue 1 history, winning ten titles between 1957 and 1981. In the 1975–76 season, the club reached the European Cup final, losing to Bayern Munich. Players like Michel Platini and Dominique Rocheteau represented the club during its golden years. After decades of instability, the club remains a cultural icon of French football, although its last national title dates back to 1981.
