The Aston Villa of 1981-82 was the team that won the European Cup by defeating Bayern Munich 1-0 in Rotterdam. It was the club that had been English champions in the previous season.

History

Aston Villa were English champions in 1980-81 under Ron Saunders, using a very small group of players throughout the season. The following year, the club competed in the European Cup. In February 1982, Saunders left his position and Tony Barton took over the team, which continued advancing in the continental tournament. The final was played on May 26, 1982, in Rotterdam, against Bayern Munich. Goalkeeper Jimmy Rimmer was injured at nine minutes and was replaced by Nigel Spink, who made great saves. The championship goal was scored by Peter Withe at 67 minutes, following a cross from Tony Morley. The achievement gave Aston Villa its only European title in the main club tournament and is considered the greatest feat in the club's history.
