Founded on March 14, 1909, Athletic Club is one of the oldest football clubs in Belo Horizonte and Minas Gerais. A pioneer in organizing football in the state, it participated in the first editions of the Minas Gerais Championship and helped consolidate the sport in the state. Throughout the 20th century, Athletic experienced moments of glory in regional football, winning state titles in the early decades of football in Minas Gerais and contributing to reveal talents that shone in larger clubs in Brazil. In recent years, the club regained prominence by competing in the national divisions, participating in Series C and Series D of the Brazilian Championship. Galo Doido keeps alive the century-long tradition of football in Minas Gerais and remains a historical reference in Belo Horizonte.
