History
Founded on April 26, 1903, Atlético Madrid reached new heights under Diego Simeone, manager since December 2011. The 2013-14 team was known for defensive intensity, tactical organization and collective strength, featuring Diego Costa, David Villa, Koke, Gabi, Godín and Courtois, the latter on loan from Chelsea. In La Liga, Atlético accumulated 90 points and confirmed the title in the last round with a 1-1 draw at Camp Nou, with a goal by Godín. It was the club's first Spanish title since 1995-96. In the Champions League, the team reached the final in Lisbon on May 24, 2014, and lost 4-1 to Real Madrid in extra time after a goal by Sergio Ramos in the 93rd minute. In August 2014, Atlético still won the Spanish Super Cup against the same rival.
