History
Clube Atlético Mineiro was founded on March 25, 1908, in Belo Horizonte, by a group of young students passionate about football. From the outset, the club adopted black and white as its colors and became known by the nickname Galo. In the early years, football in Minas Gerais was practiced informally without an official state tournament. This changed in 1915, when the first edition of the Campeonato Mineiro de Futebol was held. Atlético won this inaugural edition and entered history as the first state champion of Minas Gerais. It was the beginning of a series of achievements that made the club the greatest champion of the Campeonato Mineiro over the years. The 1915 title is, therefore, one of the founding milestones of the club. It helped establish Atlético as a reference in Belo Horizonte football, and today is remembered as the first chapter of a story that would reach national and continental conquests.
