History
After winning the Brazilian Championship, the Brazilian Cup and the Mineiro Championship in 2021, Atlético Mineiro entered 2022 as one of the protagonists of Brazilian football. The team had players like Hulk and Paulinho in its squad and played its games at Mineirão, since Arena MRV was only inaugurated in 2023. In February 2022, the club won the Brazilian Super Cup by defeating Flamengo on penalties in Brasília, repeating at the start of the season the national champion status inherited from the previous year. At the state level, Atlético confirmed its favorite status and won the Mineiro Championship trophy for 2022, repeating the title from 2021. Throughout the season, the team also competed in the Copa Libertadores, the Brazilian Cup, and the Brazilian Championship.
