History
Atlético Mineiro arrived at 2024 in a cycle of dominance in the state: the team had won the Mineiro Championship from 2020 to 2023. In March 2024, Argentine Gabriel Milito took over from Luiz Felipe Scolari and won his first title as a coach shortly after, the Mineiro Championship over Cruzeiro, which ended the sequence of five consecutive state titles. The team had Hulk as the main reference, in addition to names like Gustavo Scarpa, Guilherme Arana and Paulinho, and played at Arena MRV, opened in 2023. With this squad, Galo reached the finals of the two main cups of the year. In the Copa Libertadores, Atlético lost the final to Botafogo 3-1, in Buenos Aires, on November 30, 2024. In the Copa do Brasil, it was runner-up after being beaten by Flamengo in the decision. After a 2-0 defeat to Vasco, on December 4, 2024, in the Brazilian Championship, the club decided to end Gabriel Milito's cycle.
