Atlético Sorocaba

Atlético Sorocaba is a club from the interior of São Paulo state that had its peak in the late 2000s, when it competed in Serie A of the Brazilian Championship. It is one of the main representatives of football in Sorocaba.

History

Founded in 1935, Atlético Sorocaba spent most of its history competing in regional and state competitions in the interior of São Paulo. The club gained national prominence in the 2000s, when it invested heavily and achieved promotion to Serie B of the Brazilian Championship. The historic peak came in 2010, when the team secured a place in the elite of Brazilian football for the first time, surprising with its modest structure against traditional clubs. The campaign was historic for football in the interior of São Paulo state. After the brief period in the national elite, the club faced financial difficulties and returned to the lower divisions, remaining active mainly in the Paulista Championship and regional competitions.
