Club Atlético Tucumán
Club Atlético Tucumán is the oldest still-active club in the interior of Argentina, founded in 1902 in San Miguel de Tucumán. Known as 'El Decano del Interior', the club consolidated itself in the elite of Argentine football from 2015 onwards, winning the Copa de la Liga Profesional in 2023.
History
Founded on October 6, 1902, Atlético Tucumán holds the title of oldest still-active club in the interior of Argentina. For decades, the team oscillated between the divisions of national football, but maintained a passionate fanbase in the province of Tucumán, in northwestern Argentina. The definitive return to the Primera División in 2015 marked the beginning of an era of achievements and stability. The club surprised the continent by competing in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores in 2017 and 2018, bringing Tucumán football to the South American stage. The pinnacle of this new era arrived in 2023, when Atlético Tucumán won the Copa de la Liga Profesional Argentina, its greatest national title. The Estadio Monumental José Fierro, with capacity for over 22,000 fans, is one of the most imposing stadiums in the interior of Argentina.
