History
Founded in 1944 in the capital of Paraíba, Auto Esporte Clube emerged during a period of great effervescence in northeastern football. The nickname 'Canário da Borborema' pays homage to the Borborema plateau, a geographical formation that marks the interior of the Northeast and Paraíba's cultural identity. In the 1970s and 1980s, the club experienced its period of greatest national prominence, reaching Serie B of the Brazilian Championship. Historical rival of Botafogo-PB, Treze, and Campinense in the Paraíba Championship, Auto Esporte accumulated state titles and developed talents who pursued careers at more prominent clubs. The club represents the resilience of northeastern interior football in the face of financial difficulties that marked the sport in the region.
