Avenida Sports Club
Multi-sport club from Santa Cruz do Sul (RS) that became one of the greatest powers of Brazilian women's football in the 2020s. It surprised the country by winning two consecutive Brazilian Women's Championships, surpassing giants like Corinthians, Palmeiras, and Flamengo.
History
Avenida Sports Club was born as a multi-sport association in the Vale do Rio Pardo, in Rio Grande do Sul, without great national prominence for decades of existence. The turning point came with consistent investment in the women's football team, built on a training and athlete recruitment project that differed from the logic of major urban clubs. From the late 2010s, Avenida began competing in state and national competitions more competitively, drawing attention for its internal organization in a medium-sized city, far from the traditional poles of women's football like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The historical peak came when the club won the Brazilian Women's Championship, an achievement repeated the following year, establishing Avenida as a success story in management and planning in national women's football, even while operating with a much smaller budget than rivals like Corinthians and Palmeiras. The team plays its matches at Fanão, a stadium located in Santa Cruz do Sul, and has become a reference that well-managed regional structures can compete on equal footing with the major centers of Brazilian women's football.
