History
Bahia Football Club was founded on January 1, 1931, in Salvador, and is one of the most traditional clubs in the Northeast. Its greatest historical achievement is the 1959 Taça Brasil title, when it defeated Pelé's Santos in the final and became the first Brazilian champion. The club repeated this national achievement in 1988 by winning the Campeonato Brasileiro. In the regional context, Bahia is one of the greatest winners of the Copa do Nordeste, with titles in 2001, 2002, 2017, and 2021. The 2021 conquest reinforced the club's strength in the regional competition. In 2023, Bahia became associated with City Football Group as the majority shareholder of its football corporation, initiating a new management cycle.
