Esporte Clube Bahia is the largest club in the state of Bahia and one of the most traditional in Brazilian football. Founded in 1931 in Salvador, the Tricolor de Aço is a two-time Brazilian champion and has one of the largest fan bases in the Northeast. The club plays the Ba-Vi classic against Vitória, one of the most passionate rivalries in national football.

History

Founded in 1931, Bahia quickly became a powerhouse of Brazilian football, winning the Brazilian Championship in 1959 and 1988. The club also won the Roberto Gomes Pedrosa Tournament, predecessor of the Brazilian Championship, in 1964. Arena Fonte Nova, opened for the 2014 World Cup, is the modern home of the Tricolor. In recent years, following investment from the City Football Group, the club returned to the elite of national football with ambitious projects for the future.
