Cultural Sports Association Baraúnas Club
Club from the city of Mossoró, in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte, born from a carnival block in the 1920s. It is one of the main representatives of football in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte and experienced a memorable campaign in the 2005 Copa do Brasil.
History
The club's origins date back to 1924, when 'Baraúnas' was the name of a Mossoró carnival block. On January 14, 1960, members of this block founded Baraúnas Sports Club, which in 1966 became known as Baraúnas Cultural Sports Association. The club gained national recognition in 2005, when it played its first Copa do Brasil and eliminated América Mineiro, Vitória, and Vasco da Gama, falling only in the quarterfinals against Cruzeiro — a historic campaign for a club from the Northeast interior. The following year, in 2006, Baraúnas won its first Campeonato Potiguar title by defeating local rival Potiguar de Mossoró in the final, establishing itself as the main force in the city's football. Since then, the club remains one of the protagonists of football in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte, playing its home matches at Estádio Nogueirão, with capacity for approximately 25,000 fans.
