Barcelona Esporte Clube is one of the most traditional clubs in the interior of Bahia, headquartered in the city of Ilhéus. It is recognized for its history in Bahian football and for revealing players to larger clubs in the state.

History

Founded in 1913 in the city of Ilhéus, in southern Bahia, Barcelona Esporte Clube was born in a region that experienced the peak of the cocoa economy. The club quickly became one of the main forces in interior Bahian football, regularly competing in the Bahian Championship over decades. Throughout its history, Barcelona had relevant participations in state competitions, alternating periods of prominence with reconstruction phases, something common among traditional clubs in the interior of the Northeast.
