History
Beijing Guoan was founded in 1992, during the professionalization process of Chinese football, and came to represent the country's capital in the national elite. The club plays its matches at the Workers' Stadium, in Beijing. The club won the Chinese Cup in 1996, 2003, and 2018, in addition to its main national title, the Chinese Super League in 2009, which was marked as the first league conquest in this phase for the capital's team. Over the years, Guoan attracted one of the largest fan bases in the country and received prominent foreign players, such as Brazilian Renato Augusto, who played for the club in the second half of the 2010s and early 2020s, and Congolese forward Cédric Bakambu. The club is also a frequent presence in the AFC Champions League, a continental competition in which it seeks to expand its international projection.
