Club Atlético Belgrano

Argentine club founded in 1905 in the Alberdi neighborhood of Córdoba, Belgrano is the most popular team in Argentina's second largest city. Despite never having won the Primera División title, it is recognized as one of the great teams of inland Argentine football.

History

Club Atlético Belgrano was founded on September 5, 1905 in the Alberdi neighborhood, in Córdoba, Argentina's second largest city. The club was created in honor of General Manuel Belgrano, a hero of Argentine independence, and quickly became a sports reference in the region. Throughout its history, Belgrano experienced numerous fluctuations between the Primera División and the Primera Nacional — Argentina's second division — becoming one of the clubs with the most experience in promotions and relegations in Argentine football. This trajectory of struggle forged an identity as a combative club with passionate supporters. The Gigante de Alberdi Stadium, inaugurated in 1951, is the club's fortress. With a capacity for over 30,000 supporters, the stadium is considered one of the loudest in inland Argentina, hosting major matches and the intense rivalry with Instituto Athletic Club, another Córdoba club. Belgrano is the most popular club in Córdoba, which gives it an expressive fan base throughout the country. In 2022, the club regained promotion to the Primera División and firmly established itself among the elite of Argentine football, reaffirming its importance in the national scene.
