Blackburn Rovers Football Club
Blackburn Rovers is one of the founding clubs of the Football League and one of the few teams from smaller cities to win the Premier League. With financial support from Jack Walker, the club signed Alan Shearer and other star players to assemble a competitive squad that culminated in the Premier League title in 1995. Blackburn also has a rich history in the nineteenth century, with three FA Cup titles.
History
Founded in 1875, Blackburn Rovers won the FA Cup six times in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, becoming one of England's first great clubs. The club was a founding member of the Football League in 1888. The most recent and impactful title came in 1995, when, under manager Kenny Dalglish and with Alan Shearer scoring 34 goals in the season, Blackburn won the Premier League dramatically on the final day.
