Blackpool FC
English club from the seaside town of Blackpool, with spells in the Premier League and historic tradition in English football, including the FA Cup conquest of 1953.
History
Founded in 1887, Blackpool FC is a traditional English football club, headquartered in the tourist city of Blackpool, in the northwest of England. Its period of greatest glory occurred in the 1940s and 1950s, when it featured legendary striker Stanley Matthews and won the FA Cup in 1953, in the match that became known as the 'Matthews Final'. After decades alternating between the lower divisions of English football, the club surprised by achieving promotion to the Premier League in the 2010-11 season, under manager Ian Holloway, playing in the elite of English football for the first time in decades, although it was relegated at the end of that same season. Since then, Blackpool has oscillated between the Championship and the lower divisions of the Football League, keeping Bloomfield Road as its historic home and a base of loyal supporters despite the financial difficulties faced by the club throughout the 2010s.
