Botafogo 1907
The 1907 Botafogo won the Carioca Championship, the first state title in the club's history, still in the pioneering days of football in Rio de Janeiro. The team represented Botafogo Football Club, founded in 1904.
History
Botafogo Football Club was founded in 1904 by Flávio Ramos and other young men from the Botafogo neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. The name comes from the neighborhood itself, and the black and white colors marked the club from the start. In the early years of Carioca football, championships were disputed by few clubs, largely formed by the city's social elite. Botafogo quickly established itself among the main teams in the Metropolitan League. In 1907, the team won the Carioca Championship, the club's first title in the competition. This achievement gave Botafogo a prominent position alongside Fluminense, champions in 1906, and helped initiate one of the great rivalries in Brazilian football. In 1942, Botafogo Football Club merged with Club de Regatas Botafogo, founded in 1894, and gave rise to Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas. The 1907 Carioca title became part of the modern club's list of achievements.
