Botafogo 2015
Botafogo in 2015 was the champion of Serie B of the Brazilian Championship, one year after the 2014 relegation. This conquest brought the club back to Serie A in 2016.
History
Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas was born from the merger on December 8, 1942, of Botafogo Football Club, founded in 1904, with Botafogo Club de Regatas, from 1894. It is one of Rio de Janeiro's most traditional clubs and has the lone star as its symbol. The club was relegated to Serie B of the Brazilian Championship at the end of 2014, going through its first reconstruction season in the national second division in many years. In 2015, Botafogo competed in Serie B and finished the competition as champions, earning direct promotion to Serie A in 2016. The title placed the Black-and-Whites back among the elite of Brazilian football. Upon returning to the first division in 2016, Botafogo finished the Brazilian Championship in fifth place, a result that secured a spot in the 2017 Copa Libertadores.
