Botafogo Football Club

Botafogo Football Club was the football club founded on August 12, 1904 in the Botafogo neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. It won eight Carioca Championships before merging, in 1942, with Club de Regatas Botafogo. From this merger was born Botafogo Football and Regatta Club.

History

The club was founded on August 12, 1904 by young students from the Botafogo neighborhood, with the name Electro Club. Shortly after it became known as Botafogo Football Club and adopted black and white colors, which to this day identify the Botafogo team from Rio de Janeiro. In the early days of football in Rio de Janeiro, Botafogo Football Club was one of the protagonists. The 1907 Carioca title ended in a tie with Fluminense. The 1910 campaign gave the team the nickname of Glorious, and in 1912 came another state title. In the 1930s, the club experienced one of its best periods and was Carioca champion four consecutive times, from 1932 to 1935. Through its teams passed names such as Leônidas da Silva, champion in 1935, and later Heleno de Freitas, one of the greatest idols in Botafogo's history. In 1942, during a basketball game between Botafogo Football Club and Club de Regatas Botafogo, athlete Armando Albano died. After the tragedy, the two organizations from the neighborhood decided to unite. The merger was made official on December 8, 1942 and created Botafogo Football and Regatta Club, which inherited the titles and tradition of the Football Club.
