Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar is a football club from Brisbane, Queensland, that competes in the A-League, the top division of Australian football. Founded in 2004, it has become one of the most successful teams in the league, with three Grand Final titles.

History

The club was founded in 2004 as Queensland Roar, to represent the state of Queensland in the A-League, which began in the 2005-06 season. The new franchise filled the gap left by the Brisbane Strikers, which had been disbanded from the old national league. In 2009 the name was changed to Brisbane Roar, and the team plays its home matches at Suncorp Stadium, also known as Lang Park. The peak came under coach Ange Postecoglou's command, between 2009 and 2012. In the 2010-11 season, Roar was champions of the regular season (Premiership) and also won the Grand Final, in a decision against Central Coast Mariners decided on penalties. The team became famous for a streak of 36 matches without defeat, a record in Australian professional football. In 2011-12, the team defeated Perth Glory in the final and won the second consecutive Grand Final title. In the 2013-14 season, now under Mike Mulvey's command, Roar once again led the regular season and won the third title by defeating Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1 in extra time. Names like Kosovar striker Besart Berisha, the club's all-time leading scorer, and German midfielder Thomas Broich marked this period. Brisbane Roar remains a reference for attacking football and player development in the country.
