History

Founded in 1964 in the city of Brøndby, a suburb of Copenhagen, Brøndby IF quickly became one of the greatest forces in Danish football, professionalizing itself in the 1970s and rising to the national elite. The club experienced its heyday in the 1980s and 1990s, winning multiple Danish Superliga titles and competing in European competitions, including significant participations in the UEFA Cup. Currently, Brøndby IF remains one of Denmark's most traditional clubs, maintaining fierce rivalry with FC Copenhagen in the so-called "Zealand derby" (Sjællandsderbyet), one of the country's most watched classics.
