Cagliari Calcio
Cagliari is the main club on the island of Sardinia and a symbol of football in southern Italy. Founded in 1920, the club proudly represents a region of strong cultural identity. It is the only club outside the Italian mainland to win the Serie A title.
History
Cagliari wrote its most glorious chapter in 1970, when it won the only Serie A title in its history with Gigi Riva as its absolute star. Riva, the greatest goalscorer in the history of the Italian national team, spent his entire career at the Sardinian club, refusing offers from European giants out of love for Cagliari. The club alternated between periods in Serie A and Serie B over the following decades. In recent years, it returned to the top flight and seeks stability in the first division.
