Calcio Padova
Italian club from the city of Padua, in Veneto, founded in 1910. Its best moment occurred in the late 1950s, when it finished Serie A in third place under coach Nereo Rocco.
History
Calcio Padova was born in 1910 in the university city of Padua, in the Veneto region, and adopted as its symbol a red shield on a white background that originated the nickname Biancoscudati. The club's strongest period was in the second half of the 1950s, when the team managed by Nereo Rocco established itself as one of the most difficult to beat in Serie A, supported by rigid marking and quick counter-attacks. Third place in the 1957-58 season is the best result in the club's history in the Italian Championship. In that squad played Swedish striker Kurt Hamrin, who later had a distinguished career at Fiorentina and Milan and would play in the 1958 World Cup with Sweden, runners-up in Brazil. In the following decades, Padova alternated between Serie A, Serie B and the lower divisions of Italian football, returning to the elite in the early 1990s. The club plays its home matches at Stadio Euganeo, opened in 1994.
