Campo Grande Atlético Clube

Campo Grande Atlético Clube

Traditional club of Rio de Janeiro football, one of the pioneers of the Carioca Championship in the early 20th century. Today it competes in amateur and youth competitions in Rio de Janeiro.

History

Founded in 1911 in the Campo Grande neighborhood, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, the club was one of the protagonists of Rio de Janeiro football in the 1920s and 1930s, when the city concentrated much of the elite of Brazilian football. The club's historical peak occurred in 1926, when Campo Grande won the Carioca Championship, a rare feat for a club outside the main axis of Rio de Janeiro's major fan bases at that time, which guaranteed the club a permanent place in the memory of Fluminense football. Over the decades, Campo Grande lost ground among major professional clubs and moved to amateur and youth competitions, keeping alive its tradition in the neighborhood that gave it origin.
