Real Unión Club
Historic Basque club, one of the few teams neither Catalan nor Real Madrid/Barcelona that won the Copa del Rey.
History
Founded in 1915 in the border city of Irún, Real Unión Club is one of the most traditional clubs in the Spanish Basque Country. The team won the Copa del Rey in 1913 and 1918, a rare achievement for a small-town team. The club played seasons in the Spanish second division in past decades, but currently competes in regional divisions, maintaining a strong connection with the local community of Irún. Its historic rivalry with Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao marks the Basque identity of the club, which preserves its Gal stadium as a symbol of its century-old tradition.
