History

Celtic Football Club was founded in 1887 in Glasgow. In the 1960s, under the command of Jock Stein, the club initiated a sequence of national titles that would extend to nine consecutive Scottish championships. In the 1966-67 season, Celtic won the Scottish Championship, the Scottish Cup, the Scottish League Cup, and the European Cup, in addition to other regional trophies. The starting team brought together names such as Jimmy Johnstone, Bobby Murdoch, Tommy Gemmell, and Billy McNeill. The European final was played on May 25, 1967, at the National Stadium in Lisbon. Inter opened the scoring from a penalty with Mazzola at 7 minutes, but Celtic came back with goals from Tommy Gemmell and Stevie Chalmers, and became the first British team to win the European championship.
