History
Originally founded as the Yanmar Diesel team in 1957, the club became a founding member of the J.League during its professionalization in the 1990s, adopting the name Cerezo Osaka in reference to cherry blossoms (sakura), a symbol of the city. Despite rarely competing for the national title, the club stood out for its youth academy, revealing players who became references in the Japanese national team. The main title in recent history came in 2017, when Cerezo won the Emperor's Cup, one of the most traditional tournaments in Japanese football. The club also alternates seasons between the first and second national divisions.
