Charlotte FC is an American soccer club from the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, that debuted in Major League Soccer in 2022 as an expansion team. It is owned by billionaire David Tepper, also owner of the American football franchise Carolina Panthers.

History

Charlotte FC was announced as an MLS expansion franchise in December 2019, being formally founded by David Tepper, who was already the owner of the American football team Carolina Panthers and held the rights to Bank of America Stadium. The club made its debut in the 2022 MLS season, breaking league records for average attendance in its inaugural season, with matches played at Bank of America Stadium, drawing over 70,000 fans in some matches. In its early seasons, Charlotte FC reached the MLS playoff stage, without yet winning major titles, but quickly establishing itself as one of the strongest attendance markets in the North American league.
