ChievoVerona

ChievoVerona was born in 1929 in the Chievo neighborhood of Verona and became one of the most unlikely cases in Italian football by reaching Serie A in 2001 from amateur divisions. It was excluded from professional football in 2021 due to financial problems.

History

The club was founded in 1929 by fans from the Chievo neighborhood in Verona and spent decades in amateur and regional divisions of Italian football. It is noted as the only team to climb the entire pyramid, from amateur leagues to the first division. The promotion to Serie A came in the 2001–02 season, and the team surprised by finishing their debut in fifth place, earning a spot in the UEFA Cup. After the Calciopoli scandal, they played in the qualifying round of the 2006–07 Champions League, where they were eliminated by Levski Sofia. After a relegation and their return in 2007–08, the year they won the Serie B title, Chievo remained in the top flight until being relegated in 2018–19. They shared the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium with rivals Hellas Verona, and their nickname Mussi Volanti, the flying donkeys, comes from a joke by rival supporters. In 2021 the club was excluded from professional football due to financial problems. In 2024, Clivense, commanded by Sergio Pellissier, a club idol, acquired the brand rights and started calling themselves ChievoVerona.
