Club Atlético Cerro
Traditional club from the Cerro neighborhood, in Montevideo, one of the popular teams in Uruguayan football outside the Nacional-Peñarol duo.
History
Founded in 1922 in the working-class Cerro neighborhood in Montevideo, the club built a strong identity with the port and industrial community of the region. Throughout the 20th century, it alternated between seasons in the first and second divisions of Uruguayan football, being recognized for its fervent fan base and for the regional derby against Rampla Juniors. The greatest achievement in the club's history was winning the Uruguayan Championship in 1994, a result that surprised the landscape dominated by Nacional and Peñarol and became a landmark in the history of football in the interior of Montevideo.
