Club Atlético Tigre

Founded in 1902 in the city of Victoria, in the province of Buenos Aires, Club Atlético Tigre is one of the historic clubs of Argentine football, known by the nickname "El Matador" and for its blue and red colors.

History

Club Atlético Tigre was born on August 3, 1902, under the name Club Atlético Juventud del Tigre, at the initiative of a group of twelve young men led by José Dellagiovanna, who would become the club's first president. Since its foundation, its colors are blue and red, with the traditional red horizontal stripe on blue adopted from the 1940s onwards. In 1931, Tigre was one of the eighteen founding clubs of the Argentine Football League, marking the beginning of professionalism in Argentine football. It was also in that year that striker Bernabé Ferreyra, one of the greatest names in Argentine football of the 1930s, made his debut for the club before becoming a River Plate idol. The José Dellagiovanna Stadium, with a capacity of 26,282 spectators, was inaugurated on September 20, 1936, in a friendly match against Boca Juniors. The nickname "El Matador" emerged in 1955, in reference to the offensive strength of the team in that season. In more recent times, Tigre won its main national title by winning the 2019 Argentine Superliga Cup, defeating Boca Juniors 2-0 in the final, played at the Mario Alberto Kempes Stadium in Córdoba, with goals from Federico González and Lucas Janson. In 2021, the club was also champion of the Primera Nacional, guaranteeing its return to the top division of Argentine football.
