Ipiranga Athletic Club
One of the pioneering clubs of São Paulo football, Ipiranga competed in the first championships organized by the São Paulo Football League in the early twentieth century.
History
Founded in 1899 in the city of São Paulo, Atlético Ipiranga Club was one of the first Brazilian clubs to adopt football, a sport that had recently arrived to the country through English residents established in the region. The club was part of the group of pioneering associations that competed in the amateur championships organized by the São Paulo Football League, alongside names such as São Paulo Athletic Club, Mackenzie College and Germania, helping to establish football as an organized practice in São Paulo. Like many clubs of the amateur era, Ipiranga lost momentum with the professionalization of Brazilian football in the following decades, ceasing to compete in prominent competitions and becoming part of the early history of the sport in the state.
