History

Founded on March 26, 1924 from the merger of Esporte Club América with Internacional FC, Atlético Paranaense took decades to establish itself on the national scene. The club's modernization, with the renovation of Arena da Baixada in 1999, was a turning point in its history. In the early 2000s, Furacão began to emerge nationally. The title of the Brazilian Championship in 2001 was the first of great significance, consolidating the club as a national force. Arena da Baixada hosted matches at the 2014 World Cup, further elevating the stadium and club's prestige. The most glorious period in Athletico's history was between 2018 and 2021, when the club won two South American Cups (2018 and 2021) and two Copa do Brasil titles (2019 and 2021). The 2018 South American Cup campaign was historic, with the title won against Junior Barranquilla. Furacão is also recognized for its youth development work, producing important players for national and international football. The classic match with Coritiba, called 'Atletiba', is one of the biggest in Paraná football.
