Coimbra Sports

Minas Gerais-based club founded by a group of young people from Nova Lima in tribute to Zico (Arthur Antunes Coimbra). Currently based in Contagem, it competes in state competitions of Minas Gerais.

History

Coimbra was founded on January 5, 1986 by a group of young people from Nova Lima, who chose the name in tribute to Arthur Antunes Coimbra, Zico, one of the greatest icons of Brazilian football. Over the years, the club moved through cities such as Uberlândia, Nova Lima, Belo Horizonte, and Contagem, where it turned professional in 2009. With the eagle as its mascot, a symbol of agility and victory, the club built its history competing in lower divisions of the Minas Gerais Championship, investing in youth development as a growth strategy. In January 2025, Coimbra Sports entered into a partnership with FC Porto, from Portugal, adopting the brand Coimbra FC Porto, combining the original tribute to Zico with Portuguese football expertise.
