Columbus Crew is a North American soccer club from the city of Columbus, Ohio, one of ten founding clubs of Major League Soccer. It is one of the most traditional and winning teams in the league, with three MLS Cup titles.

History

Columbus Crew was announced on June 15, 1994 as one of ten founding clubs of Major League Soccer, debuting on the field in the inaugural 1996 season. Between 1996 and 1998, the club played its matches at Ohio Stadium, of the Ohio State University. In 1999, Crew became a pioneer by inaugurating the first stadium built specifically for soccer in the United States, the Columbus Crew Stadium (later Mapfre Stadium, today Historic Crew Stadium), where it played its matches until 2021. The club won its first MLS Cup in 2008, followed by a period of rebuilding until winning again in 2020. In 2021, the team debuted in its new home, Lower.com Field, and won its third MLS Cup title in 2023. With three MLS Cup trophies (2008, 2020 and 2023), Columbus Crew is recognized as one of the most successful and historically relevant clubs in North American soccer.
