History
Founded on March 23, 1936 in Aracaju, Associação Desportiva Confiança quickly established itself as the leading force in Sergipe football. With home games at Batistão Stadium — officially named Estádio Governador Lourival Baptista —, the club built a historic dominance in state football. The Bicho-papão nickname arose from the strength and determination with which the club faced its opponents, causing fear among rivals from the Northeast and throughout Brazil. With more than a dozen state titles, Confiança is undeniably the greatest club in Sergipe. In national competitions, the club made its mark in several editions of Division C and even competed in Division B of the Brazilian Championship, bringing the name of Sergipe to the national stage. The club serves as a springboard for players seeking visibility. The Bicho-papão supporters are passionate and turn Batistão into a cauldron during the most important matches. Confiança is more than a football club: it is a cultural institution of Aracaju and a symbol of Sergipe sports.
